The Urpop Foundation has organized the Urpop Festival each Ascension Day for over three decades. The purpose of this festival is to provide a platform for new artists to showcase their talents and allow individuals to attend without any charge. This event occurred in 1982 at the De Kelder youth center between E9 and the canal, with only 500 guilders as the total budget. To build the stage for this momentous occasion, crates were used!
Celebrate the anniversary of the Urpop Festival and join in on the free event this year! The festivity will build a professional stage, with more resources than ever before available to make this edition one for the books. The lineup includes AJ Plug, Urban Distortion, Janse Bagge Bend, and Kal Make - so be sure to take advantage of it. Come ready for some impeccable music!
While the budget has increased, Urpop still prefers to provide an opportunity for amateur bands from the region to perform in front of a few hundred and even up to several thousand people. Doing this helps these acts gain experience and build brand awareness without relying on known 'world acts.' This is how Urpop gives back to its local communities. The formula has been successful, as visitors flock from the entire Euregion to attend. This festival isn't about business - it's something much more than that!
While only the stage appears professional, you can be sure the music will emanate perfectly across the crowd. Urpop also showcases a dance tent every year where DJs engage with their audience through passionate and powerful performances as they attempt to win over hearts on each night of dancing.
