Celebrated each year on the UK's late summer bank holiday weekend (usually August), Shrewsbury Festival first kicked off in 2006 as a direct successor to Bridgnorth Folk Festival, which first occurred in 1997. Initially taking place at The Quarry, the festival has since moved to West Midlands Showground, where it continues to be held annually and attracts visitors from all walks of life!

Alan Surtees and Sandra Surtees, the founders of the Bridgnorth Folk Festival back in 1997, stand at the helm of the Shrewsbury Folk Festival. Together with a committed team of committee members, they oversee all festival projects and related events.
John Jones and Steve Knightley, both of Oysterband and Show of Hands, respectively, have been patrons of this festival since 2011. Both renowned bands have graced the stage multiple times at the event over the past few years.
