On the special weekend of October each year, No Bounds Festival in Sheffield merges past and present to give a wild innovative experience. Offering electronic music as their primary genre but crossing over into many different types of soundscapes, unique musical experiences can be found at contrasting venues throughout the city, which capture both its contemporary culture and historical industrial roots.
The live performances at No Bounds are always amazingly electric and intense. This is the seventh year for the festival, which has become an unmissable date in the dance music calendar. No Bounds operates primarily out of Hope Works, an old first-world war gun barrel factory. However, this year they have stretched even further across Sheffield city by opening up a still-functioning electricity substation in a towering brutalist building and linking up with numerous DIY and independent venues across town.
The end goal is a festival that examines the relationship between music, physical space, and Sheffield. It does this by delving into the city's history, culture, and heritage and then expanding on it with some of the world's most cutting-edge electronic music.
Beyond the standard musical performances, No Bounds Festival expands to offer a variety of installations, poetic readings, film screenings, and talks/debates. Moreover, as part of its educational strand programming, which includes DJ workshops and live coding classes, they offer courses in the field of music journalism to help foster new knowledge.
