Since Memorial Day Weekend in 2000, the promoter from Philadelphia has been organizing Making Time as a substitute for clubs. Their initial aim was to provide a dance event for fans of indie rock, 60s soul and funk, and Britpop. This contrasts the popular music genre of trance and progressive house that was present in clubs during the early 2000s. The English psych-rock band The Creation's track "Making Time" inspired the name of the event series.
Pianka became more involved in DJ culture and noticed the music at events evolved. Eventually, it returned to showcasing underground electronic cuts. The idea to transform the party into a festival originated in 2010 when Dave P and his team marked ten years of organizing parties. To celebrate, they hosted an anniversary gig featuring LCD Soundsystem, which drew the largest crowd of 5,000 people in Making Time's history. The event took place at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
In 2013, there were plans for a music festival at the Navy Yard. However, the Public-Private Economic Development Corporation, called the PIDC, was against the idea and ultimately canceled the festival. In 2021, the festival organizer, Pianka, attempted to bring the festival back but due to COVID-related concerns, the Navy Yard was not a feasible location. As a result, the first Making Time Festival took place in September 2021 at Fort Mifflin.
This year, another exciting edition of the Making Time ∞ Festival will take place at Fort Mifflin, the location of a successful inaugural event. The festival will feature impressive visual projections and energetic music. This event has become a prominent electronic music festival in Philadelphia.
Experience a fantastic lineup of talented musicians at the Making Time ∞ Festival. In addition to great music, there will be plenty of exciting activities for everyone to enjoy. Come and have a party together for three unforgettable days and participate in something truly unique!
