Perry Farrell's band, Jane's Addiction, first introduced Lollapalooza in 1991 as their farewell tour. After its long hiatus from 1998 to 2002, it was revived and officially established in Chicago's Grant Park five years later - hosting a whopping 300 000 people over three days! From then on out, Lollapalooza has been one of the most popular music festivals around.
To keep the tradition of a touring event alive, Lollapalooza traveled to South America in 2011 and made its international debut in Santiago. Since then, São Paulo and Buenos Aires were added as destinations in 2012 and 2013, respectively, while Berlin was welcomed into the group with an inaugural festival in 2015. Today, due to their cultural impact through this tour, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and Germany are imbued with a sense of identity from hosting Lollapalooza - who knows where it'll pop up next?
