Grant Park Music Festival

The Grant Park Music Festival, formerly known as the Grant Park Concerts, is a ten-week classical music extravaganza in Chicago annually and claims to be America's only free outdoor classical music series. It features an extraordinary orchestra and choir accompanied by spectacular guest performers and conductors. The festival also proudly serves as a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing high-quality cultural experiences to the public at no cost!

Towering over the Chicago skyline for nearly a century, the Grant Park Music Festival had enchanted locals and tourists alike since 1931 when Mayor Anton Cermak suggested hosting free musical concerts during an otherwise dismal Great Depression. Since then, symphonic performances have become part of this special event's legacy, and its celebrated tradition continues in full swing today.

For seven decades, the festival has been a celebrated event that brings together internationally renowned classical musicians. It began at the Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park and eventually moved to Jay Pritzker Pavilion for its 70th season in 2004. It even took place at Harris Theater on occasion! As it is financially backed by various supporters and recently allowed some of its concerts to be released publicly as CDs, there's no doubt that this festival continues to provide an incredible experience year after year.
