Fleadh Cheoil

Musicians from all generations are invited to join together in the beautiful city of Mullingar for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2023 with the theme of "The Homecoming" from August 6th–14th. Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ) has announced that this event will be held in Mullingar. Last year, this event was a success, gathering an audience of 500,000 people and a total economic boost estimated at €50 million!

CCÉ is devoted to making a haul on last year's achievements and creating a one-of-a-kind event and an unforgettable experience for visitors this year. They enthusiastically anticipate greeting friends from near and far in 2023 as people will come together again to celebrate Irish culture at Fleadh Cheoil! Their passion, which was so strongly united in making the last year's Fleadh such an impressive success, is sure to continue when you and many other festivalgoers gather once more.

In 1951, the inaugural gathering of CCÉ founded Fleadh Cheoil, a momentous national festival dedicated to Irish traditional music. Since then, this event has been hosted in numerous different venues around the country. As such, it's become an important part of Ireland's culture and heritage, celebrating its unique musical traditions with pride each year. As the years went by, the number of contenders increased drastically to the point where regional qualifiers had to be organized on the county and provincial levels. Since then, Fleadh Nua (the new fleadh), Fleadh na Breataine (an all-Britain fleadh), and local competitions in Britain and two primary contests in the USA have become regular CCÉ occasions each year.

The Fleadh Cheoil was designed to set a benchmark in Irish traditional music through competition right from the start. It is an intensely competitive event that features many concerts, céilíthe, parades, and sessions. For over half a century, fleadhanna has been facilitating an enviable platform for the many thousands of traditional musicians and dancers to meet up. Each year, approximately 20 thousand performers participate in these competitions worldwide!
