Born in Cleveland County's small Flint Hill community nearby NC, he was famous for introducing "Scruggs style" banjo playing to a wide audience. His creative ability allowed him to collaborate with artists from various genres, forming an impressive range of music during his lifetime.

It was held in collaboration between the Earl Scruggs Center, a museum and cultural center situated in Shelby, NC, and WNCW-FM public radio at Isothermal Community College of Western North Carolina. Last year's inaugural Earl Scruggs Music Festival was hosted during Labor Day weekend 2022 at Tryon International Equestrian Center, nestled among the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains with amenities such as camping grounds, lodgings, restaurants, and activities galore.
