Every year, the captivating Bachfest Leipzig graces the city of Leipzig, a location that holds immense historical significance for J.S. Bach, whose service as Thomaskantor spanned 1723-1750. Since 1999, this festival has been organized by the noted Bach Archive in honor of its beloved home, and each edition revolves around a different theme!
To commemorate the 300th anniversary of Thomaskantor Bach, the 2023 edition of Bachfest Leipzig will be themed "BACH for Future." It means attendees will not only honor his music and its original venues but also present it in unconventional ways with a diverse collection of debutants, fresh new formats, and several adaptations or reinterpretations of familiar works.
For 300 years, Bach's music has retained its relevance and influence. At the 2023 Bachfest, attendees will explore how his compositions continue to shape their present and future lives. There will be approximately 100 individual events throughout the festival, which starts with an opening concert presented by a Thomaskantor and ends traditionally with a closing performance of Bach's Mass in B Minor at St Thomas Church. Participate in this incredible event to immerse yourself in the timeless beauty of Johann Sebastian Bach!
